Woodworking Cuts You Need to Know How to Make | WOODWORKING BASICS

Last week, I received a message from Sergio who is brand new to woodworking and he told me that he loves my artica.

But when I shine on the cutting pieces of wood, he gets confused. He asked if I could show them in more detailWhile I can’t really take the time to explain all the deductions I’m making in each video,I like this suggestion and I thought it would be a great theme for a basic video. So here are five most common woodworking kits you need to know how to make.Keep in mind: I’m not a hand tool woodworker so this list is limited to power tools only. The cross cut is easily the most common cut you will ever make. In fact, with dimensional wood

-This is the wood that you buy that comes in different widths, as you get at the Home Depot -You can create whole projects with just cross kits. All saws can make cross cuts.A cross cut is any cut that cuts in the direction of the wood grain, so basically, you are shortening the long planks. The quickest and easiest way is to use a pea saw, sometimes called a cup saw.Just hold your workpiece against the fence, make sure your hand is out of the way,Pull the trigger and slowly lower the saw head, and let it cut through the wood.Release the trigger and wait for the saw to rotate before raising the head. You can cut any width of the board that is smaller than the diameter of the blade. On a table you will need to use a meter gauge to keep

the wood still. Always let the blade run at full speed. Before you pass the wood slowly through the blade,Make sure you keep your hands at a safe distance. One advantage of table saws is that you can cross-cut.More wide boards than you could with your meter R.For an even better cut, you can create a cross-cut sled that will give you a dead-on, square, accurate, cross-cut each time. Also, for more tips, please take a look at my table r basics video. Especially the safety tips you need to observe.

You can make cross-cuts using bands, but the blades can grow, making it very difficult to get a perfect square cut.Without really good saws and wide blades. Also, the length of your cut is limited to the width of the throat. For this reason, I do not recommend using Bandsu for cross-cutting.You can also use jigs or circular saws to cut the cross. And, you can achieve great results with Square Guide. only recommend them. For rough cuts or large construction projects where a high degree of accuracy is not really required.

The second most common kit you will need to make is a tear kit

Cutting along the same direction as the grain. Now, you are not limitedBoard widths sold at home centers or lumber yards. You can plan almost any woodwork. To cut long boards on a table saw, you will need a cutting fence.

Make sure it is exactly parallel to the blade. As a reminder, never put a cut on a table or free hand.Without using meter gauge or rag fence. Also, since the width of your cuts is often very narrow and very close to the fence blade,Don’t just try to move the board with your hands. Always use a pair of pushsticks orFor maximum protection, use a gripper.Probably heard of them once or twice. To make the cut, make sure there is enough space in front of and behind the board to run.

Apply constant downward pressure to the board and toward the tear fence

Avoid pressing against the cut off side of the board, which will push it into the blade and can.Possibly bind it or cause a kickback. Especially for tall planks,It is a good idea to set up an outfeed table to support the cut parts.I have a very old and very small band that will not explode.A fence actually makes the cut worse because I can’t compensate for the blade’s growth. However, I see a lot of people tearing up Bandsu, I know it can work well. The better you need a standard, well-tuned, saw and blade, the better. If you only have a circular saw or jig saw.You will have no fun trying to make a cut. It would be very difficult to stand up straight,Cutting, edging and basically keeping the base of the saw on the board so well,Get a table saw.

A range of dimensional timber sold at home centers

That is, it is the same thickness: three quarters (3/4) inch or 18 millimeters. But there are times when you want thin wood. For example, a small gift box will only appear.Heavy with 3/4 inch woodAnd livelyTo re-arrange the boards along their edges to make thin plates.Plus, you’ll be getting twice as much wood for the same price. The best tool for this task is a bandwagon that will allow you to cut very wide boards.Again, if you have a really good saw. And a wide blade, you can put up a fence and start cutting.I saw freehand again on my bandsu after just one line. You see, I have to keep adjusting.Angle a bit to stay on course. When you look at the board again, you will always have saw marks and shells.

If you have a planner, you can clean them from a few sides or smooth out the cut faces. You can see the wood again on the table. But you are limited by the power of your saw bladeOne tablecloth can really cut that much wood at once and it can even pop your breaker.Without proper setup, this can be a really dangerous cut

. My recommendation is to watch again.I also saw narrow boards on a tableTry to cut only half the width of the board and then turn it over and cut the rest.Install the zero clearance insert plate so that the thin board does not fall into the sawAnd set up a winged board to press the infidel side of the board against the cracked fence.Make sure you have complete control over the workpiece using the appropriate pushsticks or push blocks. But my honest advice is to avoid looking at the table saw completely again.Unless you have a really good setup and you really don’t know what you’re doing. One meter cut is any cut at any angle except 90 degrees. For four-sided objects in general, this means a 45 degree cut.

As you might expect, and as the name implies, a meter saw is a great tool for making pea kits. The saw is centered at different degrees and usually stops positive at 45 degrees as this is the most common meter.Keep your workpiece in place and make the cut the same as you would with cross kits.To make a bevel cut, hold the board face against the fence.

If your pea saw gives you a consistently accurate cut, then there is really no need to use a table saw to cut the peas.

Personally, I think I can get a much better cut on my table r but it’s just me.To make meters, just adjust the angle gauge your meter gauge needs,Hold your workpiece against it, and cut.For very accurate deductions each time, I use a meter sled. This thing is calibrated just to make it.45 degree angles but, it makes them perfect every time.Circular saws and jig saws have inclined bases that allow you to cut oxen and you can use speed squares to make mitters.Again, these are useful for construction of raw construction projects but mostly for wood work,You will probably want a lot of accuracy and it will be very difficult to use a bandwagon to cut peasImpossible for me.After all, making everything from square sides can be very limited and boring.

Knowing how to make a curved cut will open up a world of design possibilities.Basically, you have two choices: a bandsa or a jig saw.Cutting curves is a joy on a bandsu. Just draw a line and cut your shape. Use a narrow blade for hard curves.I like to cut the edge just outside the line then use the sander to get the cut straight to the line and smooth the edge.

There are two times when you will not be able to use Bandsu.

First, if your workpiece is larger than the throat capacity and the saw prevents you from bending the wood.

If you have a specific line to follow, you may not be able to simply turn the board.Second, it is impossible to cut any curves without an entry point, so you cannot cut holes. For these deductions, you will need a jig saw.A jig saw is one of the most versatile tools in my store. It can make curved cuts like bands, but it can also cut holes. However, it cannot cut wood as thick as Bandsu can. Also, the edges cannot be so square.Slowly bend the curves to prevent the blade from flexing and causing a beveled edge.Jigsaws are cheap and I think they push you for more money than almost any other tool.Hey guys, if you enjoyed this video and found it helpful,

Please take a moment to support this week’s sponsor, Casper, and enjoy watching:

I’m here in White’s bedroom where I’ve shot most of my Caspar locations and since he’s away from college,I thought it would be nice if we could call him and see if he dropped the gold on his Caspar mattress. It’s going to be fun. He does not know that I am calling. Is ringing

Hey, White. I’m just calling to see if you sleep well on the mattress in this awesome dorm room.AreWell, in a way it is. There is a crisis of higher education.Think about how well the students would perform on each dormitory bed on campus. It was adorned with one of Caspar’s fanatical engineered mattresses. Sold at a surprisingly reasonable price.

No, that’s fine. Ok yes

Yes, I bet they are staring. They are all waiting for me to tell you. That they have the right to try the Casper Mattress for 100 nights without danger. If they don’t like it,Casper will pick it up and give them a full refund plus,

White?

Hey everyone I hope you have picked up some points in this video, especially if you are new to woodworking.Sometimes the terminology and knowing what kind of saw to use can be confusing. Also, don’t be fooled into thinking that you need to own every kind of saw there. My only-men-lumber-on-budget-recommendation is to buy a table saw and a jig saw. With these two saws, you can make almost anything.I will include below links in the description of quality, affordable, tools that you can buy from Home Depot.
